This qualification is designed to provide candidates who require significant foundation skills support to access a vocational learning pathways, wishing to develop their Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills focusing on entering and/or returning to the workforce, gaining confidence and giving better opportunities.
Vocational electives are used to contexualise the core units in the Foundation Skills qualification. Holistic delivery and assessment of FSK Foundation Skills units of competency with units of competency from CPC08 (construction), along with contextualisation for specific workplaces, job roles or vocational pathways will be carried out.
The construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace

Completion of the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (ASCC 2007) is required before entering a construction work site. Achievement of unit CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry covers this requirement.
To achieve this qualification, the candidate must demonstrate competency in:
11 units of competency:
- 7 core units
- 4 elective units
We currently offer this qualification as:
- As an integrated Foundation Skills program – embedded in the Certificate I in Construction
The Foundation Skills Training Package differs from all other training packages in that it is designed to work in combination with them to support the achievement of vocational pathways. When the Certificate I in Construction is delivered with this qualification it can articulate into Certificate III qualifications that can be undertaken as a Traineeship or Apprenticeship.
